This week I have a card game workout for all you mommas with older kids to have some family fun time. If you don’t have older kids you can play with your significant other, a friend, or even yourself just for something a little different. You’ll be having some much fun you won’t even know you are working out… ok, maybe that’s not true, but it is fun 😉 No equipment necessary, just clear some space in your living room or head out to the yard!
Here’s how you play:
All you need is a deck of cards and maybe piece of paper to write down the key.
- Stand in a circle with the well shuffled deck of cards in the middle, face down, in a pile.
- Players take turns jogging to the center to pick a card and back to join the circle.
- That player calls out the exercise for everyone to perform based on the key below (I like to write the key on a whiteboard or on a big piece of paper).
- All players perform the exercise with the set number of reps.
- Continue going around the circle taking turns picking the cards until all the cards run out (or everyone is too tired to continue).
Key:
- Aces – 10 burpees
- Kings – 10 mountain climbers
- Queens – 10 plank jacks
- Jacks – 10 jumping jacks
- For the non-face cards use the number on the card to determine the number of reps for the exercise.
- Red – pushups
- Black – squats
Bonus: For the little ones who are still learning colors and shapes, this can be a great learning experience. My three year old loves calling out the cards (colors and suits), we are still working on the numbers. When I play with just the two of us, I let him run and pick the cards, then he runs back, we figure out the card together and I do the exercise (and he mimics….too cute).
