Now that the tax-free holiday and first day of school are a memory, we are getting into the swing of things for the fall. Cue the exclamations of, ‘Where has the year gone?!’ Don’t let mommy brain keep you from getting out in the city with your little ones! There are a couple of repeat activities this week, like the always good Trees Atlanta Thirsty Roots Reading Group which includes a story, free craft activity and free coffee for mom! Are you a ‘90s baby longing for a little nostalgia? Gather up your kiddos and make your way to the Fabulous Fox Theatre for a Little Mermaid Sing-a-long on Saturday, August 27!

This is a repeat activity from last week’s list, but it is so worth it! The Thirsty Roots Reading Group is a free reading club designed for children ages 2-7 to learn about the natural environment through nature-themed book readings and projects. This week’s book is “The Lorax” by Dr. Seuss and the craft is DIY Lorax hand puppets. The Treehouse is located in the Krog Street Market. Parking is extremely limited. On Your Mark, Get Set, Read! Storytime at East Atlanta Library

Tuesday’s storytime is geared for toddlers ages 3 and under. Storytime is in the meeting room. Afterwards, visit the children’s section of the library, where you can cuddle on a cushioned window seat with your toddler and a big pile of board books or get creative with the crayons and free coloring sheets available. There’s plenty of parking in the library lot or on the street.

Tale Time Thursdays at Center for Puppetry Arts

Every Thursday at 3pm, the Center for Puppetry Arts offers a unique story time for the Pre-K crowd. Dive into folktales through this puppet-led storytelling experience. Gather in the Global Collection gallery to hear stories from around the globe. Included with museum admission – See iconic Jim Henson characters on display including: Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Oscar the Grouch, Bert and Ernie. Then, tour the Global Collection with puppets from around the world! If time permits, don’t miss the live show Old MacDonald’s Farm currently playing.

Make a Trees Atlanta Lantern so that you can be ready to participate in the 7th Atlanta BeltLine Lantern Paradeon September 10! Workshop participants will learn how to make their own tree-themed lantern! Space is limited to 25 and pre-registration is required. All materials, light, and batteries included. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Parking is limited.
